Dental Bridge Treatment

A fixed dental restoration called a dental bridge is used to replace one or more lost teeth. It is made up of dental implants or neighbouring natural teeth that are secured to artificial teeth, called pontics. Dental bridges avoid dental problems brought on by tooth loss and restore oral function and beauty.

About Dental Bridge Treatment

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic device designed to replace one or more missing teeth, restoring both the appearance and functionality of the smile. It involves placing artificial teeth, known as pontics, which are anchored to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. This treatment not only fills the gaps left by missing teeth but also helps maintain the proper alignment of surrounding teeth, prevents shifting, and improves the ability to chew and speak properly. With regular care and dental check-ups, a dental bridge can last for many years, enhancing both oral health and aesthetics.

Procedure for Dental Bridge Treatment

  1. Evaluation: The treatment begins with a thorough evaluation of the patient’s oral health. The dentist examines the condition of the teeth and gums and assesses whether a dental bridge is the best solution to replace missing teeth.

  2. Tooth Preparation: The teeth on either side of the gap, known as abutment teeth, are reshaped to create the necessary space for the bridge. These teeth will support the bridge, and their shape is altered to accommodate the crowns that will hold the artificial tooth in place.

  3. Impression: Once the teeth are prepared, the dentist takes precise impressions (molds) of the reshaped teeth. These impressions are sent to a dental lab where a custom-made bridge is created to fit the patient’s mouth perfectly.

  4. Temporary Bridge: While waiting for the permanent bridge to be fabricated, the dentist places a temporary bridge to protect the prepared teeth and gums. This temporary bridge also maintains the function and appearance of the teeth during the interim period.

  5. Final Placement: Once the custom bridge is ready, the temporary bridge is removed, and the permanent bridge is cemented onto the prepared teeth. The dentist ensures the bridge fits securely and comfortably, restoring the patient’s smile, bite, and oral function.
